who says school can't be fun (um, i do. repeatedly.)
trying to read entire novels in one night is bad. especially when they are long-winded, herman melville-type novels. in the future, i will plan ahead. (yeah, just like how in the future i was going to update this every day. that sure happened.)
"Such is the summary style in which the Typees convert perverse-minded and rebellious hogs into the most docile and amiable pork; a morsel of which placed on the tongue melts like a soft smile from the lips of Beauty."
Herman Melville, Typee
what really gets me is the "amiable pork." my friendly dinner. "hello, kim, i will be your meal tonight. would you like me to get you some ketchup? we aim to please. . ."
and, i actually read more than just the melville. i'm also taking a class called 'the icelandic saga,' and i actually did some of the reading (for thursday, even.)
"Sinfjotli took the horn and said: "There is poison in this drink." Sigmund answered: "Filter it through your mustache, son." The king was quite drunk, and therefore he talked in this way."
The Saga of the Volsungs, trans. Jesse Byock
oh those zany icelanders.
